SOLD OUT THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT Alkem Scale Models is SOLD OUT Pre-wired N Scale Position Light Signals with cast brass targets. Included in the package is one brass casting complete with hoods and mounting bracket, and an assembled circuit card with 9 surface mount yellow LEDs and 6 associated wire leads. The LEDs are wired with a common ground and 5 wires to control each set of lights. The center light also has a separate control wire, as it is usually lit in most applications. For more information about position light signals on PRR, N&W and other RRs see http://www.prrths.com/PRR_Signals.html Left: Contents of kit. Right: Close up of target casting. From Left to Right: Nine light signal mounted on an Alkem Scale Models Pole Signal kit (available separately), modified seven light signal, PRR standard drawing of a position light signal, and photo of a position light signal on the N&W. The PRR and its successors continue to use these signals. The N&W used yellow position light signals until the 1960s when they changed to color position lights. The B&O and Amtrak signals use color and position light signals. In the sample photos all the lights are lit for illustration purposes only. | Assembly Tips and Notes
These LEDs are rated for less than 2.5v. Any voltage greater than this will require a ballast resistor (not included). 1000 ohms works well with a 9 Volt source. Attach the resistor to the common lead to protect all the LEDs. Make sure you use a ballast resistor before testing the lights. Voltage over loading the LEDs will burn them out! We cannot offer refunds for burnt out LEDs. To convert the casting to a 7 light signal, snip off the unneeded hoods with a flush cutting pliers. Use a fine file to remove any residual parts of the hood being careful to not disturb the other hoods. Then glue two paper discs about 1/8th inch in diameter over the unused holes. Paint the hole covers flat black. This is essentially how the prototype railroad did it too! You can remove the wire for the set of LEDs that will not be needed.
