SUMAC Prototype Photos

Close up of Sumac bush on Paul Dolkos' HO layout.

SOLD OUT -DISCONTINUED

Superdetailed Scenery Items for HO through O Scale Modelers

Sumac is frequently spotted near railroads as it was used to help control erosion and can tolerate poor soil. Examples of sumac growing in MoW gondolas have been spotted and would make a neat detailing idea.

One of the easiest shrubs to identify throughout the year, sumac has a spreading, open form growing up to 15 feet tall. Tiny green flowers in the spring are insignificant, but are later replaced by large cones of berries that remain throughout the winter. Leaves are alternate, compound and turn a beautiful scarlet in the fall. Buds are small, covered with brown hair and borne on fat, furry twigs. Bark on older wood is smooth and grey to brown.

The kit has enough parts to complete two full trees or 6-8 small bushes. They are easy to assemble with CAA glue or solder for really strong bushes.
