| This laser cut wood kit is an HO scale model of a pair of wood-frame, rigid bolster, 44 inch wheelbase trucks produced by Harlan and Hollingsworth in 1865. According to freight car expert John H. White Jr, “wood frame trucks were the mainstay of American railroading during its first decades. The drawing of this truck was produced in 1865; but the design is far older.”
These trucks are ideal for use on the BTS Models HO scale USMRR freight cars as shown on the below. They may also be useful for On30 models.
BTS USMRR House Car mounted on Alkem Scale Models Wood-Frame Rigid-Bolster trucks. The kit also includes draft gear for two link and pin couplers (pins and links not included). While the couplers are functional, they are intended primarily for display and not layout operation due to their small size. Wheelsets are not included. The trucks are designed to accept Branchline 33 inch, code 88 wheels or comparable Kadee wheelsets. The axles for these wheelsets are fairly long. It is easy to modify the kit to accept axles with shorter, more prototypical length, such as the Reboxx wheelsets if one desires. The kit includes nylon bearing inserts for smooth operation.
